Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, Bhakta Charan Das, the president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), arrived in Malkangiri to spearhead a two-day march starting October 2, as confirmed by a party official.
Das touched down at Jeypore airport in the Koraput district earlier today before heading to Malkangiri.
In honor of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, he will unveil a statue of Gandhi at Mugi Point in the Kalimela block on Thursday morning.
Following the inauguration, he will participate in the 'Gandhi Pathe Odisha' procession at Mugi Point, marching towards Potere via Motu in the district, according to the party leader.
On October 3, the OPCC president will guide the yatra from Potere to Malkangiri town, where the event will conclude.
In a recent social media update, Das encouraged everyone to join the yatra, which aims to follow Gandhi's principles of non-violence to safeguard the interests of Odisha and raise awareness about women's safety and respect.
Additionally, similar yatras will be held across Odisha on October 2 and 3.
Originally planned as a year-long initiative, the yatra has been condensed due to the upcoming byelection in Nuapada, as per party sources.
The BJD, another opposition party in Odisha, has also announced a month-long yatra commencing on October 9.
